Sangri Naxos

A village in a fertile region 11 kilometers (7
miles) to the southeast of Naxos town. It actually comprises three
hamlets, Ano Sangri, Kato Sangri and Kanakari. The landscape here is
dotted with picturesque windmills, Venetian defensive towers and
charming little Byzantine churches. Agios Nikolaos (10th - 13th
century) boasts some beautiful wall frescoes, while Kaloritissas
(10th - 13th century) is built inside a small cave on the side of
the Profitis Ilias mountain.
To the south of Ano Sangri, there is now a
metalled road which leads to the ruins of a Temple of Demeter.
